Petrified Forest, Mississippi

Apparently, you can find petrified wood in almost every county of Mississippi! And actually all over the United States. Here I thought there was only a petrified forest in Arizona.

This petrified wood here is near 36 million years old. fir and maple logs washed down an ancient river channel here, where they later became petrified.

If we didn’t know better you’d just think this was wood that had moss growing on it. But that’s not the case. This wood here probably weighs over a couple thousand pounds.

At the end of trail there is a little museum that has petrified wood from all over the world. It even has some fossils that have been found personally by individuals and donated to this little museum. Of course I got a couple of cool items myself.
